Hope / Persuasiveness

Picture
Persuasion, Hope and Expectations: Key Concepts

Rationale:
  1.  Links to client’s problem(s)
  2.  Explains a way to treat the targeted issue(s):
  • Conceptualized as a key component of change
  • NOT necessarily a pre-determined rationale from a specific treatment protocol
  • Linking external circumstances, internal states, and making action towards changing problematic narratives

Case conceptualization:
  • “Telling a story” that explains the client’s concerns and a path forward
  • Components:
    • Hypothesis about precipitants & maintenance factors of client’s concern(s)
    • Organizes information about a client
      • Especially incongruent elements or inconsistencies
    • Provides a framework for treatment & a way to measure when progress has been made
    • Allow for the therapist to experience more understanding/empathy for the client
